Decorated Australian Soldier Faces War Crime Murder Charges
Australia's most-decorated living soldier, Ben Roberts-Smith, has pledged to fight five war crime murder charges in his initial remarks since being arrested last week. The Victoria Cross recipient, released on bail on Friday, denied all allegations against him and said he would use the legal proceedings as an opportunity to "finally" clear his name. Roberts-Smith, 47, is accused of participation in the deaths of defenceless Afghan prisoners between 2009 and 2012, either by murdering them himself or ordering subordinates to do so.
